Roberta was born on May 11, 1966, to Harry, and Janet Poindexter, in Alexandria, Virginia. Roberta was raised in the community called the "Berg" by her Grandmother, Janie Elliott in the Old Town Alexandria. Mrs. Speight has spoken at many seminars to women of all ages from 9 to 65 years old. A single mother of two for 11 ½ years, Roberta is able to relate to the many pitfalls of being a single parent. Women will be motivated and inspired by the story of Roberta’s life. They will be able to connect and examine their own lives in many ways. Her humorous stories will shed light on the hardest subject such as Domestic Violence. This versatile lady has over 14 years with working with the youth, from coaching high school track and field to volunteering, and over 5 years of counseling adults and working with the mentally challenge. She has served as the chair of Alexandria’s Substance Abuse Policy Committee along with volunteering at the Alexandria Virginia’s Boys and Girls Club. Roberta also has been interviewed by Associate Press, and over hundreds of women have heard her speak on topics such as the Importance of Goals, Making the Right Choices, and Building Yourself Esteem. In August 2000 Roberta realized her vision and launched her organization Sister's Keeper Resource Center, Inc., in Prince Georges County, Maryland. The organization now has over 275 members through out the United States. The mission of this organization is to provide support to Washington Metropolitan area women in achieving their personal and professional goals through information, education, networking, referral, spiritual guidance, and support services. Roberta has been a presenter at Crossland High School 2001 and 2002 Career Day, and a guest presenter in the Young Pregnant Teen class at Northwestern High School in Adelphi, Maryland 2002. Roberta has received accolades from Governor Parris N. Glendening, and Lieutenant Governor Kathleen Kennedy Townsend for her proposal "Making the Right Choice" which was chosen to be presented at the Winning Choices 2002 and 2003 hosted by The Maryland Abstinence Education and Coordination Program (MAECP). In her continuous effort to nurture the young and work with their parents, Roberta sponsored and conducted a summer camp, Camp Exploration in 2004. Out of her appreciation for the importance of preparing the young with a formidable foundation, to be successful adults Roberta served as the Director of the Progressive Christian Academy Extended Care Program. Presently Roberta is a member of the International Toastmasters which she has won regional awards from her speeches. She is also a member of the National Church of God in Prince George's County. Roberta holds a Bachelor’s in Christian Biblical Counseling. Roberta is a published author and enjoys writing poetry, drawing, dancing and spending time with her family.
